The fifth Chamber Music @ AEIVA will feature a concert in conjunction with Angel’s site-specific installation, which covers the entire lobby and atrium. Angel’s installations aim to enable forms of collaboration among sciences, philosophy, music, art, and new media.
Presented in collaboration by UAB Department of Music, Birmingham Art Music Alliance, and UAB’s Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, AEIVA. The musical performance is titled “Air in a Loop.” It will feature four world premiere compositions written by members of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance: Monroe Golden, Holland Hopson, Kyle McGucken and Tom Reiner.
The performing musicians are from the UAB Department of Music as well as the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and the Atlanta Opera: Hillary Tidman, flute; Diana Dunn, oboe; Kathleen Costello, clarinet; Tariq Masri, bassoon; and Kevin Kozak, French horn.
Jessica Angel Studio uses a variety of materials, including cut vinyl, paint, and wallpaper, to transform architectural interiors by distorting the viewer’s visual perspective.
