Craig Hultgren
As a founding member of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance, Craig Hultgren has been deeply involved with the group’s composers in the creation of works for cello. This year he will be leaving Alabama and relocating his musical activities to his home state of Iowa. This retrospective program of solo cello pieces were all composed for Hultgren and span the entire history of the Alliance beginning in the mid 1990s. It is not inclusive of all the solo works written for him by the Alliance nor does it include any of the chamber music works Birmingham composers produced with him. All of the composers represented in this cello retrospective are current members of the Alliance who have held officer positions in the organization. The retrospective demonstrates how the Alliance has turned Birmingham into a center for creative new music.
